The inability to make payment and to default on a loan thereby forcing a company to seek bankruptcy protection is not the "cause" of the bankruptcy. JPM may have been the largest debt they defaulted on, but not the only.

Of course we know now that the bankruptcy could have been avoided if the US TReasury would have stepped in as they did with AIG.
