Amazon partners with Howard University for entertainment training program

Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, +0.10% announced Friday that Amazon Studios has partnered with Howard University to launch a program, Howard Entertainment, that will train African-American students in various areas of the entertainment industry. The program will begin January 2020, span two semesters, and will be located in Los Angeles. The historically-Black university is located in Washington D.C. Training and work experience will cover marketing, entertainment law, project greenlighting and more. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, says the program is part of the company's effort to bring diversity and diverse perspectives to Prime Video subscribers. The program is kicking off at Howard's homecoming celebration, with Amazon Studios serving as the sponsor for the event's annual concert series. Amazon stock has gained 14.5% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index SPX, +1.09% is up 17.2% for the period.
