If you could only imagine how many ft of pipe, how many sensors, relays, valves and types of valves, pumps, and an incredible number of feet of varying metals making hundreds of different vessels in a refinery. The ability to find a bearing getting hot or a pump casing heating up early can save untold money. Obviously speaking of oil fields or offshore rigs is entirely different.
