Oh man, I hate this topic, but you’re going to suck me in, because this just isn’t correct. How can you say MMs don’t move the price? That’s what they do! MMs buy and sell shares to make a profit. Yes they fill orders, but they do a lot more than just that. They are traders in the simplest form. The spread that you talk about, is their own spread, or in other words, their profit margin. That’s what they do! They are traders, collecting shares, yes to fill orders from brokers, but almost always at a profit. They are part of the market supply/demand forces as much as any of us are when we are buying and selling. In theory they are order fillers, and some probably do just that, but they are not all this ethical. It’s not as cut and dry as you describe it and yes they do influence the price
