"Public statements by Principal Deputy Commissioner Abernethy, by former Commissioner Gottlieb, and in FDA’s April 3, 2019, Federal Register announcement suggest that for FDA to approve the use of CBD in food or to find that it would be lawful in dietary supplements, the agency would have to be satisfied that CBD is safe for such use under the existing statutory/regulatory regimes that govern GRAS substances, food additives, and new dietary ingredients."
