I once had a guy threaten me on the east coast and one of our local sheriff's deputies called him and let him know in no uncertain terms that his threat was unlawful and being taken seriously. The guy made a public -*ONLINE - apology.
I insisted they do a written report. When they asked why - I said: "if I call you up one day because this guy is lying dead on my doorstep I want a written record of his threat on file". They couldn't argue with the logic.
[*this guy made his threat online, but report any threat you receive, not matter how its transmitted. In my case I took a screen shot of the threat and fully documented all details.]
