Amazon Unveils Updates to Echo, Ring and Alexa at Hardware Event

Ring has new privacy features while the Echo has upgraded sound.

Amazon (AMZN - Get Report) is unveiling updates to its hardware offerings at an event inside the Sphere at its campus in Seattle with a focus on its popular Alexa, Echo and Ring products.

Amazon unveiled an all-new Echo that features a new fabric design, 3-inch woofer and increased bass volume. The company says that the Echo Studio smart speaker will automatically calibrate to maximize sound in whatever room the device may be in.

Alexa users will now have the option of substituting the home assistant's default voice for Samuel L. Jackson voice that will feature both explicit and non-explicit language settings. The Sam Jackson voice can be had for the sale price of 99 cents for the rest of 2019, and the company said it has has plans to add more voices in 2020.

Amazon also announced an update to its Ring home security system that it says will increase user privacy amid concerns about who can see the video streams the surveillance camera records.

Amazon shares were rising 0.6% to $1,752.88 on Wednesday and are up roughly 17% this year.
