It could be a factor. October is just 10 days away and that's when heating demand comes into play across the northern tier of the country. An early October heat wave would hurt demand and dampen thoughts of a "long cold winter".

Of course weather patterns do flip with the jetstream, so this may actually foreshadow below normal temperatures a few weeks from now .... we'll see what happens.
