Aitkenresearch, Right now the market cap of TPL is about $5 billion.
The committee, will have to get a lot of things right to be able to
create the highest value possible for TPL. I would love to know what
they are using as an estimated net present value for TPL. One would
want TPL to be very aggressive in buying back (and retiring) shares
if they believe the NPV is much higher than the recent share price
range. They might instead opt for dividends in the hope of attracting
income investors. Perhaps they will do both. What will destroy TPL
is if they decide to take on debt or issue stock for acquisitions.
Greater transparency should lead to higher valuations "if" it is done
properly. The vast majority of multi-billion dollar companies hold
quarterly conference calls...TPL has never done this. Should TPL
become a real C-Corp. it should get analyst coverage. Insuring that
these analysts get high quality, accurate information from management
would be a huge plus. How about having an "investor's day." As a trust
this should have been done especially since there was no annual
shareholder's meeting. Many things that management should have done
years ago, even as a trust, were neglected. I am not at all
confidant that the two incumbent trustees even understand this,
let alone get the job done. Time will tell.
