NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - U.S. stocks turned mixed in afternoon trade Tuesday, after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said in a speech that inflation remains "uncomfortably high", sparking concerns that the Fed may not be completely done with raising interest rates.

Those concerns were further fueled by Philadelphia Fed President Charles Plosser, who suggested in a speech that further rate hikes might be needed to contain inflation.
