Boone's Plan was a coast-to-coast, long haul gas superhighway that would need 100 fueling stops and interlink terminals where goods could be shipped cheaply, most of the way and then transferred to local, diesel trucks for shorter haul delivery. The working number was about $7,000 for conversion parts and labor. The pilot program was done with Freightliner, as I recall.

I see all that flaring all the time when I travel. Sad to see $$$ and eco-resources going for naught.
