or Salt water Croc, is a different specie to the Alligators you often see in fresh water in Florida and elsewhere... They are built lighter with a longer and narrower snout...
I have also been fortunate enough to go catching Alligators by hand on the Okeechobee Lake, using an Air Boat that can pretty much skim over wet grass in pursuit of the Critters... I caught one that was just around 3' long, about the maximum size to handle bare handed... Actually, you can't see much and by the position of the eyes shining red, you have to guess the location of its neck to grab him before it does...
Brought him back to my friends home to have a close look, flipped it on its back and stroke its belly slowly: it relaxed and fell asleep!.... Really cute animals: woke him up carefully and put it back in the lake....
