As for the selection of Lamperd to assist with the study, this may be great news. For one, it gives Lamperd a heads up on what standards may be set. This gives them a temporary head start in re-engineering their products if necessary. It also means they have first hand knowledge of the new rules. There shouldn't be much in final regulation that will come as a surprise.
Being part of the process means Lamperd will have influence. They can help guide the experimentation to a desired result. And finally, the purpose of standards is to minimize risk. If a country adopts the Canadian standards going forward, then Lamperd is less likely to be successfully sued in the event that someone is hurt based on Lamperd's products. It makes both the police department and Lamperd more comfortable knowing that as long as the products are used per the standard, that a certain amount of immunity is granted.
Looking forward to some decent sized contracts, but I believe this little PR has more importance long term than most people will expect.
