the in process monitoring by camera (flightware) and now the
in process CT scan (auburn U).

These approaches allow inspection of each layer during the build and
allow in process correction. You can actually see whether a defect has been
corrected.

This is not possible with melt pool monitoring, and might be why we haven't
heard much of closed-loop control recently.

It'll be hard to convince people that melt pool monitoring adds value
when you can actually just look at your part during the build and see what's going on.

These techniques seem to be headed for commercialization in the next two years or so, and that's when SGLB has a good chance to become obsolete.
