(AMD) ---- One of my sisters and I have AMD (age-related macular degeneration) in our right eyes and have had for 14 months. Every four to six weeks we go to an eye specialist for a special and sometimes painful "shot" in our eyes. We both have blood leaking from tiny capillaries behind our retina. We're told by our doctor that "if" we don't have that shot (full of medicine) we'll eventually go blind in our right eye. My insurance covers most of the $1,835 cost of that shot. I'm typically billed $65.52 for my out-of-pocket cost.

We're typically in the doctor's office for at least 1 1/2 hours....and the waiting room is often filled with people with AMD eye issues. I sometimes think that doctor has quite a racket going - a wash/rinse/repeat process. But, I'm NOT going to criticize that doctor for what he has and continues to do for us. We've NOT lost our vision!

The more and more I read and learn about stem cell technology the more I think about becoming a stem cell patient to perhaps resolve my macular degeneration issue - permanently.
