Barron has a post on LinkedIn today responding to an article about the competition. Still a speculative play!

The idea is fine but the execution plan and logistics don’t pencil. First, it leaves from Victorville. That’s 90 miles north of LA. That’s the worst part of the drive. Then they plan to put the tracks down the center divider of the I-15 freeway. There are 100 overpasses there with huge center support columns blocking the center divider. How do you get through that? Then there is the land assemblage. They need to buy hundreds of parcels to do this, including those in Vegas for a station. That’s over $10 billion. Then the California EPA approvals. It takes a year to get a permit to build a house. This could take a decade to approve a new railroad in the California desert.

I just wonder how some very smart people think this will work. I have been seeking approvals from Amtrak & the railroads for almost 10 years to run on their existing rail lines. We are close. If so, trains will run in 2020.
