Of course you can be proud of yourself, your accomplishments.
And, like you, I would have your back if you were in danger.
I believe the sense of pride in being brown is the ability to love and value oneself. Growing up I was discriminated against, harassed by cops, and pushed into shop classes in high school because I was Mexican. My experience in the Marine Corps had a lot to do with reassessing who I was and who I am. As you know, after I got out of the service I went to school and got a few degrees.
I am pleased with my accomplishments and proud of my children and proud to be American.
