KARSTEN HENCKELL
Associate Professor, Mathematics/Computer Science. 1986
B.A., University of Hamburg; M.A., Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley

Professor Henckell's research is in complexity of finite semigroups, but he also has taught mathematics and computer classes for children in a Montessori school and been active in tutoring a community group of home microcomputer users. At New College he teaches both basic and advanced courses in computer science. Professor Henckell is a chess master and a "2-dan" master of Go.
