Many comparable(and much larger) companies were intimately involved in aiding and abetting the amyloid hoax as the primary causal agent in the development of Alzheimer's long after it was apparent this theory was fatally flawed...Ostensibly joining the next consortium to study biomarkers related to disease types is, apart and aside from an opportunity to do real research, also a relatively low cost way to publicize they're on the case, whether they expect much in the way of results or not.

As it is, if nothing else, it certainly helps AVXL appear so, while serving as an additional distraction from their lack of any real clinical achievement
