This was not KBLB silk. The shoot pack tested came from Randy Lewis.

Also, a .22 is just about the weakest bullet in common use. But beyond that, they used a 'slow-moving' .22. Here is a chart for reference:


Note that the .22LR velocity varies from 1070 to 1600 feet/sec. The slow variant only has 100 foot-pound force. A 9 mm has three times the energy and a 44 magnum has at least 7 times the punch.

Next, stopping the bullet is not as important as how deep the bullet penetrated. This is called backface signature. If you look over my posts, you will find the precise allowed backface signature allowed for US vests. DoJ rates vests according to their ability to stop a bullet from penetrating deeply, not whether it stops the bullet.

Please don't conflate this test with a test of our shoot packs. Not the same thing. The Army does not test with slow .22 rounds. They report backface signature depths. The test was not professional in any sense. That test simply has nothing to do with KBLB.
