Mercedes-Benz E-class achieves 100,000 best-selling milestone in Korea

The tenth-generation E-class luxury sedan of German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has become the first imported car model to achieve 100,000-milestone in sales in Korea.

The Korean unit of Mercedes-Benz said Monday that it delivered the 100,000th unit of E-class model to a customer in Korea on July 19. The sales achievement was made in just over three years since the model was released in the country.

Its feat comes at a time when overall imported car sales in Korea have been slowing. Foreign names saw sales contracting in Korea 22 percent during the first six months of this year against the same period last year. But Mercedes-Benz has fared well in the Korean market, firmly staying at the top for the third year in a row with E-300 selling 6,800 units this year.

Mercedes-Benz E-class cars, which are available in 12 different models, are sold at minimum 63.50 million won ($54,000) in Korea.

The company attributed the popularity of the luxury model to the wide choices in the lineups on top of excellent car performance fitted with latest auto technology.
