I lived in Minnesota for a while.

A little over eight years. Moved there from California. Thought I wouldn't mind the cold as I was born and raised in Colorado.

Cold is a whole different cold in the north-central states. There was a day that the company decided to close early because of the weather. The schools were closing due to the weather, and the company had to close also so that the parents could pick up their kids -- the school didn't want the buses out if they could avoid it. It doesn't snow much in Minnesota but huge drifts form as a result of the snow blowing around. The drifts can get so high that they fill the spaces below the freeway overpasses, and you can get a drift in front of your house that goes up to the roof line, yet there could be bare patches in front of the house where there is no snow.

On that day I left early from work? I went out to the parking lot to find out I had a flat timer. It was so cold that the air contracted within the tire, lowering the air pressure within the tire, and the wind was blowing so hard that it rocked the car, thus breaking the seal between the tire and the rim, causing the tire to go flat. I was one of the last ones to leave the parking lot as I had to put on the spare tire. The wind chill that day was -55_degrees Fahrenheit. The steering wheel was so cold it hurt the fingers to the bone.
