Please consider that at 3 years we may have a "3 year marker" whether or not we have a total of 298 events. If there is a notable discrepancy between total events in each group it "may" be possible to call it quits "we have enough total evidence" based on time and total differential.

Guaranteed ? No. Possible, yes. From my perspective, "already very probable".

In other words, time and total differential in events may supersede 298.

This may be enough to remove 298 events as "material" since something else and possibly better statistically may replace it.
