Sure there is. 2 die spliced together would yield more than 2X higher than 1 die twice the size. Additionally it suggests the possibility of stacking a third, or a forth, or ....

64-bit extensions increase the core by approximately 5%. (I don't include cache and memory controllers in the core, the increase is negligable if these are included.)

Making a whole seperate coprocessor to extend 32-bits to 64-bits just has to use a bunch more silicon than that! It will be bad for yields. Matching speeds for bin splits must be a treat, also. :)
