Articles must be approved for publication by an SA editor and they have some marketing on the site and elsewhere once published. Authors/contributors are compensated for published articles, albeit not very much. The rules prohibit the author/contributor from publishing the same article in locations outside of SA. SA only publishes articles that haven't been published elsewhere. Published articles are seen by many. I've even had some of mine picked up by Google news.

Instablogs have no editorial review and show up instantly. There is no payment or marketing. There are no prohibitions against publishing elsewhere before or after an instablog is posted.

Very few people see an instablog due to the lack of marketing of any sort. Shareholders that follow an author/contributor may get an email notification of the posting if they are signed up for real time notifications. The posting of the instablog by shareholders to friends and other sites is the most common way an instablog is seen by new eyes.

I just noticed that the article linked earlier this afternoon is the same as the Seeking Alpha article/blog/whatchamacallit linked yesterday.

Karin....if you're reading:
"Baystreet.ca has been compensated one thousand eight hundred dollars by Viper Enterprises for Innovation Pharmaceuticals advertising."

....for the very same material that appeared in SA. Earlier you made a distinction between the thing that appeared in SA as an article versus a blog that I didn't quite understand, but I'm curious:
Could the SA writer be compensated by SA for the same material that Viper (Barrett Ehrlich's colleague) paid Baystreet.ca to publish? Is the type of material that appeared under the name BioResearch Alert's Blog typically compensated by SA or not?
As someone who has been an SA contributor yourself, can you make sense of this?
