ScottAllen, “eom” as used here on ihub means “end of message”. Since the message list uses the first eight words of each message, eom is added, as a courtesy, to the end of messages comprised of fewer than eight words thereby letting readers know they have read the entire message from the message list and making it unnecessary to open the actual message.
