Interestingly, Canada's Drug and Impaired Driving committee continue down the wrong path with the swabalyzers from Drager and whoever else. They aren't good or fair and will just create more delay in court because the stakes of losing a job or drivers license are just too high for a device that can get you a criminal record for last months Friday night get-together.
It seems that the latest breath collecting device has some capability to make the whole effort work with a mass spectrometer which could be accepted as the best device for accuracy and fairness to determine a thc impaired driver. It doesn't sound timely at present for use at roadside, unless we put the desktop MS in a mobile van where it has a chance of working outside a lab.
The BCD would generate revenue for the company as well as the ignition interlock device that we haven't heard much about lately.
Only government would continue to build on the mistake they are making with the swabalyzers and maybe some heads need to roll for that and the fact that they tendered that they wanted more than a thc breathalzyer, able to detect other drugs too. That is idealistic and a pure thc breathalyzer will suffice for now.
A breathalzyer that will detect almost every type of impairment exists. It is called a Mass Spectrometer and putting that in every police car comes after a simple thc breathalyzer. Necessity is the mother of invention and pot sales are expected to rise and my guess is so will thc impaired driving without a fair and workable deterrent. glta and dyodd
