OREGON SET TO DO 50,000 ACRES OF HEMP PRODUCTION

“It’s a new crop that’s been highly, highly monetized in the last few years,” said Jerry Norton, the co-founder of the Oregon Industrial Hemp Farmers Association and a Salem-based hemp seed grower and processor. “We have 1,500 registered growers planting 50,000 acres this year.”

That's nearly half of all of Canada's output just in one state alone.

Kentucky also expected to put out more than 50,000 hemp acres.

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) has approved more than 58,000 acres for hemp cultivation in 2019, more than any other state and more than 3½ times the 16,000 acres approved in 2018.

With just two states, USA hemp production nearly matches that of Canada.

In comparison, 23 states totaled approximately 78,176 acres of hemp in 2018. Most should expect that many states will be increasing their productions as well, including Colorado, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and even North Carolina, who has already licensed quadruple the amount of acres produced in 2018 to over 13,000 acres. With the addition of other new hemp-producing states such as Texas, Kansas, and Arizona, the amount of hemp the USA is expected to produce will only continue to rise, potentially making it the #2 hemp producing nation in the world, behind only China (consistently outputting between 200,000-250,000 acres annually). We should expect to see a significant increase in the amount of greenhouse production square footage.
