I think we all can agree that today's news is disappointing. Just how disappointing is very difficult to say. I agree with microchips, it would be "good to have more details on the power supply issue".

I don't have any of those additional details, but I may be able to add some context to what is going. For all of us non-engineers knowing what a "power supply" looks like would be a good place to start. Though the current version of the AOT power supply unit may be slightly different than the ones used with TransCanada, I'm willing to bet that they are very similar. Fortunately, the 8K describing the equipment to be used on the TC pipeline included the power supply units. They were listed as "LH series 5 kW regulated high-voltage DC power supply". There was also some customization done as well.

The link below will take you to the Glassman LH series 5 kw regulated high-voltage DC power supply unit.

In the QSEP update they said:

"Our team responded quickly to this short-term set-back. After removing the primary power supply, our engineers reconfigured the system to run off a secondary power supply. Although this unit was not capable of achieving target treatment voltage, were able to perform limited testing and troubleshooting measures, after which the damaged power supply was shipped to the manufacturer for expedited repair and reconditioning.

Is this just a simple fix of a defective piece of customized equipment? QSEP seems to be telling us exactly that. After all, the backup power supply worked up to its limited capabilities. They have gone out of their way to tell us that everything else has checked out and is ready to go once the repairs are complete.

we expect to be back up and fully running in approximately 4-6 weeks, as we await repairs to be completed on the power supplies."

Why wasn't this spotted earlier? Is this the same power supply problem or a different one (close reading of previous problems look entirely different to me)? But I can't know, I'm not an engineer nor do I have all of the relevant information. There is very little that I can say other than that I'm frustrated by the delays, but I am comfortable with and I trust the current management (something I could never say about Greg Bigger).
