EIA reports a slightly larger-than-expected weekly climb in U.S. natural-gas supplies

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday that domestic supplies of natural gas rose by 89 billion cubic feet for the week ended June 28. The data, which were released a day earlier than usual because of Thursday's Independence Day holiday, were expected to show a build of about 80 billion cubic feet, according to energy-market analysts at Schneider Electric. Total stocks now stand at 2.390 trillion cubic feet, up 249 billion cubic feet from a year ago, but 152 billion below the five-year average, the government said. August natural gas NGQ19, +1.29% traded at $2.253 per million British thermal units, up 1.3 cents, or 0.6%, from Tuesday's settlement. It was trading at $2.275 before the data.
