What a marketing gimmick!

I see it as a way for them to garner market intel on what the public would like to see from a Spider Silk product. But, with a Hidden Agenda:

In addition to symbolizing the proportion of plant to microbial life found on Earth, the shirt demonstrates the potential for an entirely animal-free manufacturing process.

As others have alluded to here, it seems Spiber is trying to take a stab at those companies using "animals" in their processes. Aka, KBLB.

Competition is good...BRING IT!!!

IMHO, while they're going for the low-hanging fruit, KBLB will be dominating from the top-down.
