Which kinda makes me wonder about after-hours

And....why do we/they HAVE this after-hours thang anyways ?.....
Like, IS a market closed ? Or IS it NOT ?

Must ALL companies reporting wait until after that session closes ?
Is it something they are required to do ? Or....what.

Obviously, I'm a little bit foggy (if not a LOT) uneducated on the whole after-hours thang.
