Doesn't "drop in replacement" simply just refer to the actual genetic modification of the silkworm?

By saying, "drop in replacement" aren't they simply saying they are basically replacing the silkworm silkworm with the recombinant spider silk "DNA"-infused silkworm? They've just made the product better from the standpoint of spider-silk properties.

I don't see how "drop in replacement" refers to the processes in production, supply, etc.? It only makes sense if the product produces more then the equipment, etc., will follow suit.

If your toilet paper roll is too big for your toilet paper dispenser, obviously you'll need to buy a new dispenser if you choose to continue using more. But, if you are simply using a "drop in replacement" for your current toilet paper (i.e., Charmin for whatever generic brand) and it fits the same roll, then, voila', the only thing that changed was the toilet paper.

Am I missing something with this questioning about what a "drop in replacement" is supposed to imply?
