You forgot the main man..

I left him out because he was not from our city. He was from Shelbyville, about 130 miles from me (northeast).

You might find this hard to believe, but the Colonel was a very close personal friend of mine. I have eaten in his home many times. Just us, dining alone. I helped him start a different kind of restaurant here in Bowling Green, Claudia Sanders Dinner House. Named after his wife. It failed because he refused to sell alcohol. It was some pretty good upscale dining, but without dinner drinks, people stopped coming. Was sad when he closed it. It was an old Civil War era big house that sat on a hill.

I was doing television news at that time and I flew in with him and the Governor on a military helicopter and landed in the yard behind it for the grand opening and ribbon cutting. I gave him all the TV coverage I could. This was kind of a 'trade-out'. We needed him to cut promotionals for The March of Dimes Telethon that I hosted in this region each year. We pre-recorded many 'spots' and he was a hoot. Although he was against alcohol and was very religious, he sure could cuss! His eyesight was poor and he had trouble reading the teleprompter. He sat in a chair and I stood beside him. He leaned forward on his cane, trying to inch closer and closer to the teleprompter. I started them with a few lines and then he was to come in right behind me. He would get through a few words and then say, "I can't read that damned thing. Move that sonofabitch closer!!!" The production crew and myself all had to refrain from chuckling.

He personally helped me start a new business here after my days of TV work. He is buried next to my uncle at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. A very genuine man!!!
