Dr. Rand Paul on USDA Clarification Regarding Hemp

Over the past several months, I've heard directly from Kentucky farmers on the continuing uncertainty concerning hemp's status, even after it was fully legalized through the 2018 Farm Bill.

This week brought some great news for Kentucky's hemp industry, as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) finally made clear that once they release the regulations implementing the changes regarding hemp, state governments cannot interfere with interstate transportation of hemp that is produced legally. It also confirmed this protection for hemp produced in accordance with previous authorization for pilot programs, as well.

This exciting development allows Kentucky farmers to confidently move forward and continue reaping the economic benefits of leading the nation in hemp production. It is exactly the kind of fair treatment for hemp and our farmers we fought every step of the way to guarantee.

Whether it's the issue of hemp, or any other attempt by government to over-regulate our land and water, Kentuckians can always count on me to be their fiercest advocate in Washington.
