I think you're maybe misunderstanding a bit - the individual venues will pay less money under the soundstr way of doing things. The "big boys" PROS you refer to have no real leverage. Any individual venue can simply quit paying for the license and stop playing that music. The PROS are the ones who have the real difficulty - (1) getting individual venues to even buy a license; and (2) enforcing them.

Let's say you're a bar owner with an ASCAP license - you could simply quit paying for and using ASCAP music and switch to using PRM's license and catalog. When ASCAP comes back and says "Wait, why'd you leave us? How do we get you back using our catalog?" Venue replies - "get soundstr technology so I stop getting overcharged for music I don't even play." simple as that.

As for thousands of venues signing on - its already done and continuing to grow. PRM has about an 8-9% market share, and ASCAP and BMI each have about 44% and 42%. All it takes is for the artists to prefer getting paid for what they do, and for businesses to want to pay less than they currently do and it will be either get the technology or lose market share. (IMO)

Also, it doesn't really have much to do with a "mega-star" as many of those songs are written by other songwriters - who have rights, and want to get paid for their work.
