R.I.P. Dr. Mac Hadley, U of Arizona, College of Medicine Professor Emeritus. In the 80's, scientists at UofA were researching sunless tanning agents. Dr Hadley was conducting experiments on melanotan II & injected himself with twice the dose he intended & experienced an 8 hour erection.

Fast forward & melanotan II was licensed to PTN to pursue the sexual dysfunction agent. PTN developed bremelanotide, a metabolite of melanotan-II. PTN conducted P2 trials of intranasal bremelanotide in both female Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) and Male Erectile Dysfunction (ED) but the trials were halted by the FDA in 2007 due to increased blood pressure.

Bremelanotide was reformulated & delivered by micro-injection, trials continued in HSDD. Nov 2016 PTN announced results of two successful P3 trials. In Jan 2017 PTN & AMAG became partners. Bremelanotide was renamed Vyleesi & the PDUFA date for approval is June 23...Remember, It Works On MEN Also.
