If you spend 5 minutes thinking about the proposed operating model you will quickly realize there isn’t money to be made here otherwise someone would be doing it already. If X Train can make money with 20k passengers per year when they have to pay to rent the trains, employees, etc then Amtrak could break even on even lower volume. So wouldn’t Amtrak have added the capacity years ago if there are millions of people wanting train service from LA to Vegas? Just doesn’t make since that adding X Train as a middleman would ever be profitable.
