Complete conspiracy here, but what if after initial talks Apple decided to wait because Tesla needed to develop its products more and maybe acquire a company or two (solarcity). Let Tesla keep using markets to further development...sound familiar? Although instead of decimating the price its pumped up to insane valuations so Tesla could keep making the tutes money. Then when time came they could short Tesla as media exposed obvious short comings in Tesla to bring the price down closer to Apples desired price while also shake loose some shares.

No way that kind of thing would happen though....right?
