Dressbarn chain begins ‘wind-down’ phase, set to close all 650 stores

The women’s retail chain Dressbarn announced it will eventually be closing all 650 locations.

The clothing goods store which was founded over 50 years ago, said in a statement that due to a lack of profitability, it “plans to commence a wind-down of its retail operations."

Dressbarn said their stores and website will continue running normally during this period.

Their parent company, Ascena Retail Group, which also owns Ann Taylor and the Lane Bryant retail chains said the Dressbarn closures will not affect their other businesses.

With the online shopping market continuing to grow, USA Today reports that past three years have been especially hard on brick and mortar locations.

The paper reports that there have already been more closings announced for 2019 than all of last year.

Dressbarn’s announcement pushes that total beyond 7,000 stores shuttering, with USA Today reporting the record is 8,139 store closures in 2017.
