We were pumped to check out Nipton and the surrounding Mojave Preserve. And the staff was really great the whole time. But the eco-cabins aren't really close to how they're advertised.
They're just in a big open dirt parking lot that doesn't exactly inspire.
The eco-cabins don't have a toilet or sink or curtains. The toilets are across the dirt lot and didn't have any soap.
The vent to the woodburning stove flew off in the evening and it smoked out the cabin. We were moved to another cabin but it happened again.
It wasn't a horrible experience by any means, and again, all staff members were helpful. I backpack a lot and can sleep just about anywhere, but I didn't think I was signing up for such a "rustic" experience. Overall, it's just really not that cool or pleasant. Go somewhere closer to Joshua Tree."
