That's what tends to happen when news first drops or equities get over extended either on the buy or sell side of things (which is not the case here) and/or have a low float/OS (does apply).

The other reason would be the stage is being set for a huge swing in one of those directions. Looking at the chart and DD all signs are pointing to the upside, in which case the bid will narrow by increasing, the volume will intensify and the ask will be gobbled. That's when things get crazy in a quick manner as the path is "over confidentially" clear for an evident launch!!

That's what we are looking at here IMHO
