I am assuming that share price is not being propped up by people looking to make a quick buck but by people who are investing for the long term.

Ultimately all that is going on is that because of the promise of spider silk fulfilling many heretofore absent functions, all it took was for a decision to be made to support the endeavor. Now that the infrastructure and fundamentals have finally crossed paths, the decision that was made a long time ago, is being executed. This only happens with extremely good stocks with incredible promise, and many honest people making it all happen.
