Stem cells discovered against erectile dysfunction
The procedure is called CaverStem and involves the grafting of cells in the bone marrow directly into the male reproductive system.

Pretext of strong scientific, ethical, political and religious debate, that of stem cells is a recurrent argument among the most current scientific revelations. One of the most recent discoveries highlights the efficacy of some cells present in the bone marrow, namely hematopoietic, mesenchymal and endothelial progenitor cells, in counteracting erectile dysfunction. Thanks to an innovative medical protocol, in fact, it would be possible to reinvigorate blood vessels and smooth muscles of the male reproductive system with a natural and lasting treatment.

At the microphones of Adnkronos Salute, the urologist-andrologist Gabriele Antonini explains what CaverStem is about, the name of this procedure scientifically validated in the USA and now also available in Italy after the go-ahead by the Ministry of Health: "Hematopoietic progenitor cells are used , mesenchymal and endothelial cells present in the patient's bone marrow. The administration of stem cells directly into the penis can reverse the pathophysiological changes that lead to erectile dysfunction, in addition to treating the symptoms effectively. In about 15 minutes - continues Antonini - the urologist specialist proceeds under local anesthesia to extract a small quantity of autologous material from the iliac crest from the patient, and obtains a concentrated cellular product that is injected into the corpus cavernosum of the patient's penis same".

The only private European center authorized to administer this procedure is located in Rome. The dott. Antonini adds: "The CaverStem procedure makes it possible to carry out a safe, fast and free of collateral effects on an outpatient basis".

In Italy, an estimated 3 million men suffer from erectile dysfunction. The numbers could be even higher considering the reticence that the subject imposes, but with the research that takes giant steps this trend could know a change of direction.
