During my tour in Germany, I was Group S-1(an O-4 slot), responsible for personnel matters for three bns and HQ. I hada direct line on my desk to Engr OPO at Ft. Belvoir. Regularly, I would get a call from a COL who would identify EMs and young officers who were NOT to appear on any levy for Vietnam. Verbal order, no paper follow-up. The Group CO and XO knew I received these calls, and indicated that failure to comply would not only have a bad effect on my military career, it would also land my "young azz" on the next possible levy.
