Fire away! First Cuban property lawsuit to be filed in Miami on May 2

Attorney Gutiérrez is aware that this is only the beginning of a long legal process.

“Lawsuits will soon follow over the airport in Havana, and against Spanish hotels in Cayo Coco, Holguin, and Varadero … All in all, there will be a large number of claims for compensation,” he said…

But many of these lawsuits could also be concluded much sooner, in what is known as agreements between the parties, without actually having a judge issue a judgment.

“It is very likely that many of these lawsuits end up in settlements, that is, that the traffickers pay, indemnify the owners for the use of the assets,” explained attorney Gutiérrez.

“On the second of May we will be there in court; it will be a historic day,” said Gutierrez.
