My guess (and that is all it is) is that companies that use Twitter as the primary method of company news probably tend to have a higher likelihood of scamming than companies that use more traditional methods. I believe this is due to the ease of use and cost. An established company that has the money for more traditional press releases does not need to resort to Twitter. A new company that is just trying to make ends meet is going to be drawn to Twitter. I would guess that it is more likely for a start up to try a scam. However, that does not mean that a company that uses Twitter is automatically a scammer.
