It does seem strange if you believe in the efficient-market hypothesis.

Personally however, I've seen enough cases to know that the market sentiment is wrong a lot of the time, giving clever investors lots of opportunities to buy low and sell high when assets are mispriced.

Just look at Biogen. The market thought Aducanumab was going to work. Well, turns out it didn't, and then the company lost $20 billion in market cap.
