Sometimes a block desk is given a large order which can be filled throughout the day and filled within the discretion given to the block trading desk...for example, please buy 100K shares @ 6 or better giving the trader 10 cents discretion until filled. So they can fill all @ 6.10 or better.

The customer receives periodic partial fills which are not necessarily reported for obvious reasons.
