Marcus "Marc" Whitney Robins, 65, passed away quietly as a result of a circulatory ailment Friday, April 5, 2019, at OHSU Hospital in Portland, OR. Born to Dr. and Mrs. George Robins of Portland, he graduated from Willamette University, B.S., 1976, and Willamette's Atkinson School of Business Administration, M.B.A., 1979.
Marcus had a long career in Portland as a Chartered Financial Analyst. He was the principal creator of the Red Chip Review with an emphasis on small cap investments, for which he specialized. Later, he formed The Robins Group and Catalyst Research Management Group. His business relationships spanned the continent, from the West Coast to Wall Street.
In recent years, he wrote a book about his time spent in the small cap world - Confessions of a Ten-Bagger Junkie - explaining his investment philosophy and telling some of the stories of the people and companies with whom he had dealt. He also enjoyed bee-keeping, served on the Underwood Community Center Board, and was the CEO of Skunk Brothers Distillery in Stevenson, WA.
Marc was an active member of the Episcopal Church, including attendance in Portland, Hood River and Joseph, OR.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (née Napp) Robins, his children Kent Robins (Allie) of Yelm, WA, Clara (née Robins) Brandt (Taylor) of Portland, and Bryant Robins of Bellingham, WA, as well as two grandchildren. Marc and Barbara were lately residents of Underwood, WA., near Hood River. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas Robins of Bellingham, WA and Philip Robins of Portland. He had the joy of meeting his two grandchildren before his passing.
